Project Overview
MROOF completed a new construction project in Kawartha Lakes. This project was an addition to the existing house. They built it for their son. The soffits, gutters, and downspouts were already installed before we started. This did not affect our work because siding panels will be installed later. The framing was finished in winter. We needed to protect the structure from snow and rain. We installed the Roofnado LapLock ice and water shield membrane, added wood strapping, and then installed the metal roof to fully cover and protect the new addition.
Project Challenges
The main challenge was the winter weather. There were not many good days to work. As soon as we started installing the Roofnado LapLock ice and water shield membrane and wood strapping, the weather forecast changed for the worse. The membrane was already on the plywood, so it was protected. We covered the roof with tarps because of the snow. Later, we removed the tarps and continued the work.
Installation Process
Stage 2: Double Wood Strapping
Next, we installed double wood strapping over the membrane. This created a strong base for the metal panels and secured the system properly.
Stage 1: Roof Preparation and Membrane Installation
We started by installing the Roofnado LapLock ice and water shield membrane. This protected the plywood from snow and rain and sealed the roof base.
Stage 3: Metal Roof Installation
After the base was ready, we installed the metal panels. Each panel was aligned and secured to fully cover and protect the new addition.
Stage 4: Final Steps
We secured sewage pipes and installed a roof boot for the washroom vent. We covered the ridge vent with a breathable membrane and installed gables where needed. The roof was fully finished and protected.
Results
The new addition is now fully protected from snow and rain. The metal roof covers the structure and keeps the wood dry. We secured all the sewage pipes. We installed a roof boot for the washroom vent. We covered the ridge vent with a breathable membrane. It protects it from insects, dust, and snow. Gables were installed where needed. The house is now ready for the next stages of construction.
