Project Overview
MROOF completed a full metal roofing installation for a Blue Lake EcoLog Home in Honey Harbor, located on an island. Island projects always require extra planning and coordination, and this one was no exception. Using premium 25-gauge ThyssenKrupp galvanized steel, we engineered a roofing system specifically designed for log construction and built to handle Canadian weather.
Project Challenges
Island projects come with their own logistics, from material delivery to weather timing. On top of that, log homes behave very differently from conventional framed houses. They shift and settle over time, which means fastening depth, airflow, and structural preparation had to be carefully engineered before installation begins.
Installation Process
Stage 2: Double Wood Strapping & Deep Fastening
The next step involved the installation of a double wood strapping structural system using long structural screws that were specifically designed for log homes. This created proper ventilation and a strong, secure base that can handle the natural movement of the logs over time.
Stage 1: Structural Preparation
The first step involved the installation of an exterior roof insulation system and the application of a high-quality Roofnado LapLock waterproofing membrane over the wood structure. This provided a secure and protected foundation, which was particularly important in the high-moisture island climate.
Stage 3: Metal Panel Installation
We started the installation process of the Monterey profile metal panels using 25-gauge ThyssenKrupp galvanized steel panels. As we continued to move along the roof, we also installed starter flashings, ridge caps, ventilation components, snow guards, and finished all the areas around the roof penetrations to seal the roof.
Stage 4: Final Finishing
Due to the complex geometry of the log home, the installation of custom metal details was required to provide clean transitions and ensure long-term structural integrity. All connections were carefully sealed and aligned to provide protection against moisture and seasonal log movement.
Results
The result is a fully engineered metal roofing system designed specifically for the log home on an island. Featuring exterior insulation, Roofnado LapLock waterproofing membrane, structural double wood strapping, deep fastening, and 25-gauge ThyssenKrupp galvanized steel panels, this roof is engineered to withstand the moisture, movement, and harsh Canadian climate. The homeowner was very pleased with the final result.

Great people. It was so easy to work with them. Not only that they installed a great roof, they also helped me to finish my hot roof on a new construction, add trims, etc.
