Project Overview

The MROOF team completed a metal roof installation for a new construction that began during the winter season. Our main goal was to protect the plywood from snow and moisture using the Nado LapLock ice and water shield membrane as the initial stage. We completed the upper part of the metal roof and finished the lower portion later in the spring once all remaining wall work was completed.

Project Challenges

Our biggest challenge was the cold winter conditions during the metal roof installation. Since the Nado LapLock roof membrane fully bonds at +5°C or higher, we had to mechanically secure it with double wood strapping to ensure proper protection. Once temperature rose in the spring, the protective membrane bonded to the plywood as designed, bringing long-term durability.

Installation Process

Stage 2: Double Wood Strapping

Next we installed double wood strapping across the whole roof area. This mechanically secured the previously installed membrane and created proper airflow.

Stage 1: Ice & Water Shield Protection

Since we began the project in winter, our first priority was to protect the plywood from rain, ice, and snow, which we did by covering the roof area with Nado LapLock ice and water shield membrane. We installed the membrane directly over the plywood, securing it with double wood strapping to maintain structural stability during cold conditions.

Stage 3: Metal Panel Installation

We then proceeded with placing the metal panels using our installation method. We installed the panels carefully by starting from the bottom and overlapping each panel. We use  ThyssenKrupp 26-gauge G90 galvanized steel for our panels, which provides long-term durability for our roofs.

Stage 4: Final Touches

We completed the upper part of the metal roof by capping the ridge ventilation and installing snow guards. The lower portion of the roof was left with the membrane and wood strapping for some time because the construction was not fully completed yet. Later in the spring, as the construction was done, we completed the lower part as well.

Results

As a result, this phased approach to installing the roofing ensured the house was fully protected throughout the winter, but also provided us with a fantastic end result in the newly installed metal roofing. From the installation of the roofing system at the earliest stage, the house was protected from the weather, which in turn guaranteed that the house was not damaged during the building process. Moreover, since the final outcome of the job will be a well-constructed and properly finished metal roofing job, the homeowner will be highly satisfied with the results, thus providing us with a good review.
