Project Overview
At MROOF, we recently completed a successful metal roofing installation on a duplex in Etobicoke. Known for strong winds, the area posed a challenge for the previous shingle roof, which frequently lost shingles, requiring constant maintenance. The homeowners, looking for a more durable solution, chose to upgrade to a metal roof in Mocha Brown for long-lasting protection and aesthetic appeal.
Project Challenges
The main challenges included the roof's age and its exposure to persistent strong winds. The simple roof design featured two low-pitch slopes, with one side requiring fascia reinstallation, which had come off four years ago
Installation Process
Stage 2: Metal Panel Installation
Once the roof was reinforced, we installed Monterey-style metal panels. Starting from the bottom, each panel was overlapped to ensure a watertight seal. The 26-gauge G90 galvanized steel panels are highly durable and provide superior protection against strong winds and harsh weather conditions
Stage 1: Reinforcing the Roof and Installing Flashings
We began by reinforcing the roof with double wood strapping, which involved installing vertical and horizontal wood strips. This process was crucial for proper ventilation and structural integrity. The existing thick wooden planks served as a solid base for this reinforcement. Following this, we installed starter flashings along the roof’s edges to prevent water infiltration and direct rainwater into the gutters
Stage 3: Ventilation System
To improve airflow, we removed the old ventilation outlets, sealed them, and installed a ridge ventilation system at the highest point of the roof. This system allows hot air to escape efficiently, enhancing the roof’s performance and prolonging its lifespan
Stage 4: Final Finishing
We completed the project by capping the ridge ventilation and installing gables on both sides of the roof. These finishing touches protect the edges of the panels from wind and water, ensuring a fully sealed and long-lasting roof
